Did you know that Women Do Not Have Equal Rights in Florida?
DWCF President Patricia Farley is asking that we stand together to demand that Florida becomes the 37th state to ratify the ERA. As a women’s advocate and activist, she explains that the only constitutional right that women have in this country is the right to vote. The 14th amendment does not guarantee the same level of protection that ERA would. Even provisions for women in the Civil Rights Act can easily be taken away. Most other rights that women have are due to Supreme Court cases that can easily be overturned by a conservative court. Before the Florida legislature that you can view on video, Patricia explains the dangers to women in light of pending and future legislation that can have extremely detrimental consequences for women. It is more important than ever to have women’s rights protected through a ratified ERA in Florida. Your help is needed urgently!

Here is the message from Patricia Farley, DWCF President
“I have a few requests for you to accomplish this weekend and the following week. Please get your local members involved.
After our successful press conference in Tallahassee for ERA on Tuesday, we want to follow through. I am asking that each club contact Speaker Richard Corcoran with calls, emails, and postcards to “Bring ERA to the floor for a vote.”
You can find the video recording of the press conference at the following.
His address and phone number:
Speaker Richard Corcoran
420 The Capitol
402 South Monroe Street
Tallahassee, FL 32399-1300
Emails can be sent to members of the House through the myfloridahouse.gov website
While we understand he will probably not respond to our requests, we want him to be swamped with demands to “Bring ERA to the Floor for a Vote!” We will let him know what we want. If it is possible for each club to do at least 5 contacts a day, he would know we are here and determined. Presidents, please keep count of how many contacts-calls, emails, postcards, letters, what have you…made by your club over the remainder of the legislative session.
This is the time for bills to really start coming to the floor as they come out of committee and they have some nasty ones that will harm our public schools, unions, and right of choice.
Be diligent and respond to the requests for calls from our DWCF Legislative Chair, Diane Schrier and Progressive Caucus President and DWCF Member Education Chair, Susan Smith.
If you want to work for Democratic candidates in the Legislative special elections, please contact Grassroots Chair Linda Gallon, who is currently organizing phone banking for Margaret Good.
WE can and do make a difference as witnessed by the women who were present at the Anti-Fracking Senate Committee hearing on Monday afternoon.
Thank you for all you do for the citizens of Florida!”
Patty Farley, President
